The problem
A defibrillator only saves a life if someone can find it inside the few minutes that matter, which makes the location of every unit as important as the unit itself. A network spread across a city is also a maintenance problem, and the person most likely to notice a damaged or missing one is a passer-by rather than anybody on the team.
What we built
- The public site — what the society does, the programmes and CPR training it runs, a gallery of the work, and the donors and partner organisations credited alongside it.
- A live AED map — every unit plotted on an interactive map of Miri, with a running count of the network, so finding the nearest one does not depend on already knowing where it is.
- Reporting from the street — a public form for flagging a unit that is damaged, missing or out of date — no account, no login, so maintenance can start from whoever notices first.
- The donation flow — donating an AED explained end to end: where it gets placed, who maintains it and for how long, with WhatsApp as the direct line to the team.
- An admin panel behind it — the team keeps the map, the units and the incoming reports current themselves.
Details worth noting
- The map is built on OpenStreetMap, so the network can grow without a per-view mapping bill attached to it.
- The issue report is open to anyone — the people best placed to spot a problem are not the ones with logins.
- Donors and collaborating organisations are named on the page rather than reduced to a logo wall with no context.
